PIXY
As my last project at Snap in March 2020, I worked with Snap Lab R&D to tinker around with a in-development drone (code named “Cheerio”). It was canary yellow, light as a feather, and was designed to be as simple and “set it and forget it” as possible. (A far cry from the tech-heavy, complex-to-control standards of the drone market at the time.)
I was tasked with naming the device, and proposing a slate of taglines and branding frameworks to leadership.
Two years later, in April 2022, Snap finally unveiled it to the world. It was called the Pixy — “your friendly flying camera.” It was exciting to see that even after 2 years, they still kept my proposed name and tagline, along with the broader product framing outlined in my brief.
Despite challenges they faced with a recall later that year, the launch made a huge splash showcasing the ways Snap was reimagining the way that tech fits into our lives — perhaps it could be something a little lighter weight, engineered with a little more joy from the jump.
